Portfolio for ID Course Syllabus | Week to Week Schedule
Week 1 [1/10] - Introduction - Tone, outline, expectations of course experience.
- Review Class Syllabus, Week to Week Schedule, and expectations.
- Individual Introductions by class members to each other. Emails shared.
- Discuss self branding thru portfolio work, individual interests, emphasis.
- Discuss portfolio and other collateral materials, functions, course tone, ideas/inspiration outside of other ID portfolios and portfolios themselves; (Survey).
- Research ideas and concepts for your design philosophy/portfolio, present samples, discuss formatting types, and visual relationships to resume, letterhead, cards, teasers (collateral pieces).
Homework Assignment due next week: Select, organize, digitize/scan all portfolio work to formats for layouts, indicate projects for corrections and updating; put into formats for working in class: Complete digitize/scan of work due Week 3 (within two weeks).
Week 2 [1/24] - Visual Framework
- Typography, Graphic identity, point size, order and organization.
- Name/Logo design; typography for text/titles
- In studio: Quick reviews of student's work as time allows; correct/refine projects selected portfolio. Start portfolio graphic identity; research typography, size and start story board; show samples.
Homework Assignment due next week: Schematic story board for portfolio layout/content, spend lab time to start format first project, research typography for name/title design.
Week 3 [1/31] - Story Board Pin-up | Speed Review (Copy of story board submitted for review)
- In studio: Pin-up review of story boards for correcting and refining story board layout.
- First project continue formatting and adjust with story board development for portfolio.
Week 4 [2/7] - Work Session | Individual Speed Reviews
- In studio: Pin up or Individual reviews for correcting and refining story board and projects for portfolio.
Homework assignment due next week: Pin-up; minimum one project formatted, collateral ideas.
Week 5 [2/14] - Pin-up Critique
- In studio: Portfolio Pin-up, critique minimum one project formatted and collateral ideas.
- Continue to finalize project formatting for portfolio and refinement of page format start second project minimum.
Week 6 [2/21] - Pin-up Critique | Professional Expert
- In studio: Professional Expert on Project/Image presentation may join us for critique and review.
- Pin-up critique continues if required.
- Continue project formatting for portfolio and refinement of page format; second project minimum.
Week 7 [2/28] - Midterm | Individual Portfolio Speed Reviews
- In studio: Mid-Term Assessment-Individual portfolio reviews, continue to work on portfolio/collateral.
Homework Assignment Due Next Week: Second project minimum formatted for portfolio.
Week 8 [3/7] - Pin-up Critique | Portfolios in Progress: Two Projects Formatted For Review
- In Class: Group Critique of Portfolios with two projects completed and collateral development.
Homework Assignment due in one week: Third project minimum formatted for portfolio/collateral.
Week 9 [3/14] - Group Critique Continued | Work Session/Individual Speed Reviews
- Pin-up critique continues if required.
- In studio: Studio, individual speed reviews of third project formatted, begin formatting fourth project
Homework Assignment due in one week: fourth project formatted for portfolio/collateral.
Week 10: [3/21] - Work Session | Individual Speed Reviews
- In Class: Studio, individual speed reviews of fourth project formatted, continue portfolio/collateral development.
Week 11 [3/28] - Final Pin-up Critique | Portfolios in Progress
- In studio: Final pin up critique of portfolios with four projects completed. Pin-up of all elements in portfolio size and format layouts to allow for error correction.
Week 12 [4/4] - Work Session/Individual Speed Reviews or Continuation of Final Group Critique.
- In studio: individual speed reviews of portfolio and collateral to date, preparations for final group critique.
Week 13 [4/11] - Final In Studio Work Session/Individual Speed Reviews.
- In studio: Individual or group trouble shooting session to edit any final corrections/problems as time allows.
Homework Assignment due next week: Printed color portfolio spiral bound or final format portfolio for final grading; electronic portfolio copy for final presentation, collateral.
Week 14 [4/18] - Final Presentations - Portfolio
- In Class: Presentation of Final Portfolios to Class
Hand in Final hard copy spiral bound or final format copy provided of portfolio and collatoral for grading, and disk with electronic copy; spiral bound and disk will not be returned unless pre-arranged.

notification and work in progress received is required to me, at my professional address at
tom@marquardtplus.com in advance of start of class time on day absent. (5) points will be deducted and balance of points for class used to grade work provided. If no advance notification of absence and work in progress/due received prior to class time, student will receive no points for class. Special exception will be considered if absence due to life threatening/life emergency at the discretion of instructor.
